Operations

Our Services

Operations and Administrative Services provides a variety of services to help improve the quality of your educational and work environment. If you have any requests pertaining to the maintenance, repair, or improvement of the Law School's academic facilities that are not listed below please visit our Work Requests page for more information.

Building Access

The Law School buildings are always under strict security and some require card access for entry. To gain card access to 22 Washington Square North, Wilf Hall, and Vanderbilt Hall, please have your supervisor e-mail Jessica Franco in the Facilities Department at jessica.franco@nyu.edu. The email must include your name, Net ID, and University ID (located on the back of your NYU ID Card). Please also state which building you are requesting access for.

Please note that card access cannot be activated until the employee has picked up his/her NYU ID card from the NYU Card Center at 7 Washington Place.  For same day processing, supervisors could request a written authorization email from Erica Brustman approving the new employee’s building access. A copy of the authorization email should be given to the NYU Card Center at the same time the new employee is picking up his/her NYU ID card.

If a copy of the authorization email cannot be provided prior to the ID pick-up, supervisors should put in a request via email to Jessica Franco at jessica.franco@nyu.edu after the employee has received his/her NYU ID card.

Common Telephone Issues

Send All Calls

If you are having problems with your phone calls being transferred to your voicemail, most likely your phone is on “send all calls.” To turn this setting off, you must pick up your phone, wait for the dial tone, and press “3.” This will allow your calls to ring regularly again.

Voicemail Lockout

Sometimes employees mistakenly get locked out of their voicemail. If this happens and you are confident that you know your password, just wait 20 minutes and your voicemail will automatically unlock.

Forwarding and Un-forwarding Calls

This feature allows you to have your calls ring at another NYU extension instead of your own.

To activate:

  • Lift handset or activate speaker, dial “*2.”
  • Enter the NYU extension you wish to forward your calls to. (You will hear a three beep confirmation tone.)

To deactivate:

  • Lift handset or activate speaker, dial “#2.” (You will hear a three beep confirmation tone.)

For additional information on phone instructions you can also visit the following website: https://www.nyu.edu/its/telephone/

Sending a Fax

Local Fax

In order to fax something locally, the number should have the area code 212, 646, 718, 347, or 917. Dial 9+1+area code+XXX+XXXX.

Long-distance Fax

To send long-distance faxes, you need an authorization code. If you do not have a code, please contact Chandtisse McClaurin in the Office of Administrative Services at philippe.paul@nyu.edu or (212) 998-6262. Any faxes sent outside New York City (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, or the Bronx) are considered long-distance.

To send a long-distance fax to somewhere within the United States, Canada, or the Caribbean:

  • Dial 9+1+area code+XXX+XXXX
  • Press “pause” or “#” four times*
  • Enter authorization” code

*Most fax machines have a “pause” button. If yours does not, you can use the “#” key; all fax machines have a “#” button, which has the same function. Consult your fax machine’s user manual for specific instructions. The pause delays the fax machine’s transmission of the authorization code and allows the telephone system time to return the authorization code beeps.
