- The Bernstein Institute hosted a panel event in October 2023 entitled Beyond the Bench and Bar: Partnering for Legal Empowerment. This discussion brought together Lady Justice Wanjiru Karanja of the Court of Appeal of Kenya with Guatemalan lawyer Viviana Patal of the Women's Justice Initiative and Jhody Polk of the Jailhouse Lawyers Initiative to discuss the role for the judiciary in advancing legal empowerment.
- In collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation, Due Process of Law Foundation and Be Just, the Institute organized a discussion on women's participation in justice systems in Latin America in April 2024.
- In April 2024, the Institute partnered with Indigenous Peoples’ Rights International (IPRI) to convene a consultation on judicial independence in the context of Indigenous Peoples. Participants included representatives of Indigenous communities from Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and North America, as well as the current and former UN Special Rapporteurs on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
- During the same month, Bernstein Institute Faculty Director Professor Margaret Satterthwaite traveled to Mexico City to engage in discussions with Indigenous representatives, addressing issues such as access to justice and discrimination faced by Indigenous Peoples within the court systems.
