When pursued separately the JD and MBA degrees requires 83 credits and 60 credits respectively. JD/MBA students are required to complete 122 credits between the two programs. 71 credits must be taken at the School of Law and 51 must be taken at Stern. Degree credit requirements are satisfied by allowing 12 Stern credits to count towards the JD degree and 9 Law credits to count towards the MBA degree. These credit allocations are tight so students must be careful in selecting appropriate courses and sequences. With proper planning, a complete law and business experience, curricular and extra-curricular, can be achieved. Advisors and administrators will endeavor to assist you to optimize the dual degree experience.
During the first and second year, students register for courses through and pay tuition to the School of Law. During the third year and Fall of the fourth year, students register for courses through and pay tuition to Stern. The final semester (Spring of the fourth year), students register for courses through and pay tuition to the School of Law. Students following this schedule may need to take more than the standard 15 credit course load in one or two semesters. Please contact the dual degree advisor for the school in which you are registered for more information. Approval for credit overloads is required before registering.
