NYU Law Design Projects Guide

The Office of Communications creates a variety of digital and print products, including esigns, email banners, posters, and programs. Here's an overview of the design products we create and how to request design projects that include them.

Please follow our Editorial Style Guide when creating text for these product types.

Student Groups

The Office of Communications works with Student Affairs to post student group esigns using a templated format. Groups should reach out to Student Affairs to submit a request.     •    Date (without year), time, location
    •    Sponsors and co-sponsors, if any

Communications will then post your esign to the screens throughout the school.

The Production Process: What You Need to Know

Design project request: Submit your request using our fillable document. Work cannot begin without it.

Turnaround time: Normal turnaround time for design is four to six weeks, depending on the complexity of the job. For mailings, allow eight weeks. For posters, allow two to three weeks. For more urgent requests, please reach out to David Niedenthal (david.niedenthal@nyu.edu) to discuss options.

Text: Please submit text in a Word document with very minimal formatting. No complicated columns, tables, or tabs. Do not put text in the design product request or in the body of an email.

All jobs with a large amount of text (like programs) require copyediting. If Communications needs to outsource your project to a freelance copy editor, the invoice will be paid on the chart field submitted on the design project request.

Images and sponsor logos: Headshots and logos should not be pulled from the web or be embedded into Word documents that include text. (They come out pixelated in printing.)

For images, ask participants to submit a high-resolution JPG that is not tightly cropped. Be sure the image is 300 dpi (resolution) and at least 5 x 7 inches.

For logos, ask co-sponsors to submit their logo in vector format. Vector file names typically end with .eps, .ai, or .svg. A vector file allows the logo to be resized larger or smaller without loss of quality, and is the most flexible type of file in terms of how it can be used.

On the other hand, a raster file (with a name ending with .jpg, .gif, or .png) is limited to its specific size and resolution, and can only be sized down. Logos that are raster files, especially JPG files, should not be submitted as they will appear pixelated and are limited in how they can be used, if at all, in the layout.
