Together with the Remarque Institute at NYU, the Hauser Global Law School Program at NYU School of Law is piloting a new fellowship for scholars working on law and law-adjacent subjects in subfields including international law, European law, international legal history, and sociology of law in Europe. These broad fields may cover a diverse array of subjects, from the laws of war to imperial power.
These fellowships are for the September 1 - May 31 period. In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the stipend for this position is US$70,000 for the academic year, subject to any applicable tax(es). The rate is based on an expected duration of nine months for the academic year.
Fellows will become part of both the Hauser Fellows cohort and the Remarque Institute cohort for the year of their stay and will be expected to participate in and contribute meaningfully to the intellectual life of the two programs. Fellows will benefit from both environments and have a full year to pursue their own research and writing. By bringing together the academics, practitioners, government officials, and postdoctoral scholars undertaking the Hauser program with the expertise on Europe and its near neighbors in the Remarque program, we hope to enable intellectual collaboration, meaningful crossover between the Law School and the humanities and social sciences, and inventive, effective research that speaks to both areas of research and learning.
The fellowship is open to foreign nationals and to US and dual-nationality citizens who are teaching, working or studying outside of the US, in alignment with the eligibility requirements for the Hauser Global Fellows Program. Given the Remarque Institute’s focus on Europe (broadly conceived), successful applications will need to involve Europe to some degree.
The Institute and the Hauser Program will collaborate on providing office space. Two fellows will be selected for the 2025-2026 academic year. Please note that housing will not be provided, and fellowships may not be renewed.
The Hauser/Remarque Global Fellowship application deadline for the 2025-2026 academic year is January 15, 2025.
A complete application consists of the following:
- A completed application form
- A complete and up-to-date curriculum vitae
- 3 to 5 page description of your current research proposal
- Proof of English proficiency
- Recent publication or writing sample
- Names of two references (these referees must submit letters through our reference submission manager, linked in the application form)
