Students are urged to submit classroom accommodation requests as soon as they are able, because the review process can take up to 30 days. If you are in need of a classroom accommodation for any given semester, please follow this step-by-step guide for requesting and obtaining academic accommodations in the classroom and during exams.
Note that the process to register for accommodations differs from the undergraduate process due to grading exams anonymously. Please do not communicate with faculty regarding any of your accommodations; our office will handle your request and preserve your anonymity to the extent possible.
Step 1: Requesting Academic Accommodations
Students should visit the Moses Center website and apply for an accommodation at least 4-6 weeks in advance of when the accommodation is actually needed. The protocol for requesting and obtaining an accommodation will be provided by an accessibility specialist, who will work closely with the student to determine if any reasonable accommodations can be provided. Students will be assigned an accessibility specialist and will need to provide any documentation required. CSA accepts accommodation requests throughout the academic semester, up until a few days before final exams begin. The Moses Center offers a useful tutorial to learn how to apply.
Step 2: Generating Accommodation Letters for NYU Law
Starting in Fall 2022, students who receive accommodations should submit their CSA accommodation authorization letter to Academic Services. The Moses Center offers a useful step-by-step tutorial on how to request your letters. This step must be completed each semester for each class the student is enrolled. Please note that accommodations are not retroactive and can only be effective on the date this step is completed. To have your accommodation letters sent to Law Academic Services, please follow these instructions:
-
Log into the Moses Center portal (please click “Student Login”). To learn how to do this, please visit this student portal tutorial.
-
Once logged in, you should see a list of your current classes.
-
Check the box next to each class for which you are requesting accommodations.
-
Click “Step 2 Continue to Customize your Accommodations”.
-
Check the boxes next to the accommodations you would like to request for each of your classes.
-
Click “Submit your accommodation requests” at the bottom of your screen.
Law Academic Services will then receive an automated email for each letter you request.
Step 3: Implementing Classroom Accommodations
Once your accommodations have been received by the Law School, various teams may need to coordinate to ensure that they are in place. If you are applying for one of the below classroom accommodations, you will need to submit a request through the Law School’s Service Desk portal as a last step.
Laptop for Note-Taking (in classes that do not otherwise permit such devices)
Accessible Furniture
No Cold Call Request
Class Recording Request
You should fill out a request form for each class. Once submitted, NYU Law will work to ensure that your accommodations are implemented. This step may be completed as soon as you have submitted your accommodation letters per step 2.
