Faculty Mentorship
The faculty directors of our graduate degree programs are full-time professors who have years of experience working with our students.
They offer advice about the curriculum, career planning, research, and extracurricular opportunities throughout the Law School, the University, and the greater city. Think of them as guides who ensure you will maximize the benefits of your chosen program of study, and who create an intimate community of like-minded students within the larger Law School.
Research Opportunities
Faculty often work with students on individual projects that further enrich the learning experience.
You can generate a substantial original work under the supervision of a professor by pursuing a directed research project or writing an LLM thesis. The feedback of faculty who are experts in their fields is invaluable to your academic development. See more on LLM research opportunities.
Colloquia
NYU Law’s renowned colloquia are the most rigorous intellectual experience available in a classroom.
A series of workshops that explore scholarship on a given subject, each colloquium session features an expert who presents a recent paper or work-in-progress. Faculty, students, and guests then discuss and debate the ideas in the presented work.
Global Faculty
The Hauser Global Law School Program expands NYU Law's faculty by inviting leading law professors from around the world to teach regularly at at the Law School. These Hauser Global Faculty specialize in diverse fields of law, not just international law, and are celebrated scholars in their countries and areas of interest. Their courses provide an extraordinary opportunity for NYU students to gain a new perspective on important legal issues.

Training for Practice and the Profession
At NYU Law, traditional lectures and seminars are augmented with other types of classes that offer unique learning opportunities.
All graduate students take classes with JD students, but can select from LLM-only options as well. Many classes satisfy eligibility requirements for the New York bar exam for students with qualifying foreign law degrees.
In the Graduate Lawyering Program foreign-trained students learn skills to practice effectively in the US.
Transactional classes study how real-life deals take place. Lawyers who took part in them often help teach the class.
LLM students also can enroll in a limited number of law-related classes at NYU’s other prestigious schools, such as the Stern School of Business and the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
Simulations, Clinics, and Externships
NYU Law is widely recognized for excellence in clinical legal education. Simulation classes provide students experience in legal tasks such as drafting briefs and conducting mock trials or negotiations, and the clinics involve students in actual cases for real clients. LLMs can apply for the select number of seats available in some clinics.
