Exam4 Multiple Choice

Exam4 has a simple, straightforward Multiple Choice area. Instructing your students to use Exam4's Multiple Choice for your exam provides you the benefit of automatic scoring. You should understand how Exam4 Multiple Choice works, and be very clear in your instructions to students as to whether or not they should use the Exam4 Multiple Choice area.

How does Multiple Choice work for students?

  • Students select one answer A-F or T or F
  • Students can easily edit their responses
  • Students can clear a response so it will remain blank (e.g. if your scoring scheme gives negative value for an incorrect response, and a zero value for no response)

Students find the MC module by selecting it from the menu bar while in Exam4.   You can see a preview of this in the Exam4 Video created for the students.

Should students use the Multiple Choice in Exam4 for my exam?

  • Multiple choice should be used only when no explanations for responses are required. If your exam is truly multiple choice, or True/False, students should use Multiple Choice in Exam4.
  • If you have separate essay questions and multiple choice questions, you can use Multiple Choice in Exam4. Again, your MC questions shouldn't require any explanation.
  • If your exam questions are short-answer responses, your students should use the essay area to enter their answers.
  • If you only have a handful of multiple choice questions and can quickly grade these by hand, you may choose to have students answer in the essay area of Exam4.
