The JSD Program is funded for three years after which the residency requirement comes to an end. However, typically students submit their Dissertation during the fourth year. Starting from AY 20-21 JSD candidates who receive permission to extend their residency for a fourth year are eligible for funding. When circumstances arise that require a candidates to continue in the Program after the third year, he or she should notify the JSD Committee in writing no later than May 15 of the third year. A request for extension should include a brief summary of the work that has been done to date, a plan for completion of the degree and a statement of support from the candidate’s Supervisor. Requests for extensions of enrollment beyond the first three years will be considered one year at a time only. Fifth year candidates who are granted extensions for the fifth year are entitled to remain in residency as post-stipendiary candidates, eligibility for the JSD degree expires after five years.
