The newly renovated Tishman Auditorium in Vanderbilt Hall reopened in January with a screening of the film Just Mercy, which chronicles the work of Aronson Family Professor of Criminal Justice Bryan Stevenson (see “Double Feature”). A ribbon-cutting ceremony in March honored alumni Rita Hauser and Gustave Hauser LLM ’57, whose generous gift made the renovation possible.
The new space, designed with accessibility in mind, features an updated seating area, stage, lighting system, and technical control room. It also has state-of-the-art audiovisual and IT equipment, including multiple screens with projection and streaming capability. Dedicated in 1967 and named in memory of former Law School Trustee David Tishman 1909, LLM 1910, Tishman Auditorium is an epicenter for intellectual discourse, hosting luminaries from around the world.
A former ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and a current trustee of NYU Law, Hauser with her husband established NYU Law’s Hauser Global Law School Program, an international study program that has created a community of global practitioners and leaders since its founding in 1995.
