Dean Emeritus and AnBryce Professor of Law Richard Revesz returns to his faculty position at NYU School of Law after serving as administrator of the US Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA). Revesz was nominated for the OIRA post by President Joe Biden and confirmed by the US Senate in 2022, starting in the role in January 2023.

“We are very proud that Ricky has carried on NYU Law’s long tradition of public service and have eagerly anticipated his return to our community with the wealth of experience he has gained as head of OIRA,” Dean Troy McKenzie ’00 said in an email announcement.

Revesz’s tenure at OIRA included a long list of notable accomplishments, such as modernizing Circular A-4, the primary guidance on how federal agencies analyze regulations, and overseeing review of hundreds of significant regulatory proposals. Revesz also boosted everyday Americans’ participation in the federal regulatory process by reducing paperwork barriers and encouraging agencies to reach out to the public.

“It was an enormous privilege to serve in the Biden-Harris Administration and work to improve the environment, address climate change, reduce costs for consumers, and strengthen the economy,” said Revesz.  “I am now very pleased to return to the Law School, which has been my professional home for almost four decades, and to the Institute for Policy Integrity, which I founded 17 years ago.”

Revesz is resuming his role as faculty director at NYU Law’s Policy Integrity, which he co-founded in 2008. A nonpartisan think tank, Policy Integrity seeks to improve governmental decision-making through scholarly research in economics, law, and regulatory policy, with a primary focus on climate and energy policy.

Revesz’s areas of research and teaching will continue to center around environmental and regulatory law and policy. He has published ten books and roughly 80 articles in major law reviews and journals, and he served as President of the American Law Institute from 2014 to 2023.
