Warren Sinsheimer LLM ’57, an NYU Law life trustee, passed away on February 1, 2024 at the age of 96. Sinsheimer led the US subsidiary of British electronics company Plessey Ltd. as chairman and chief executive officer and was a senior partner at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler.
After retiring in 1996, Sinsheimer founded Partnership for Children’s Rights (PCR)—now part of Mobilization for Justice—to help disadvantaged and disabled children in New York City. At PCR he established the Warren J. Sinsheimer Fellowship for recent graduates of NYU Law. He also established the Sinsheimer Service Scholarship within the Root- Tilden-Kern Program.
In 2011, Sinsheimer received NYU Law’s Judge Edward Weinfeld Award, which honors distinguished alumni who graduated from the Law School 50 years ago or more. “Often the legal world is divided into dichotomous categories,” then-Dean Richard Revesz said. “People go and work either for the for-profit sector or do public interest. Warren has shown better than most how you can do both at a very high level.”
