The Immigrant Rights Clinic scored an en banc victory before the Board of Immigration Appeals on December 13. The Board ruled that legal immigrants with two state drug possession misdemeanors should not be treated as though they had been convicted of a federal drug trafficking felony. IRC students Caroline Cincotta ’07, Carlin Yuen ’07, and Mandy Hu '08—supervised by clinic director Nancy Morawetz '81—and Hays Fellow Kristen Conner '08 worked with the Immigrant Defense Project on the case. The IDP team itself consisted of NYU Law alumni Manny Vargas '84 and Alina Das '05. Das argued the case before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
