In a front-page article in The Washington Post, Anthony Barkow, executive director of the Center for the Administration of Criminal Law, commented on whether the government can request shorter sentences for Colombian paramilitary commanders who have committed atrocities at home, are extradited to the United States for different crimes, and then provide substantial assistance to U.S. investigators working other cases. "If they can cooperate against similarly situated people in the hierarchy, then maybe that's something the government would be interested in," Barkow said.
