The uncertain future of a ‘social Europe’ after austerity: should member states further constitutionalise social rights?
Dear Colleagues,
The Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice cordially invites you to the presentation by Dr. David Kenny, Trinity College Dublin, entitled The uncertain future of a ‘social Europe’ after austerity: should member states further constitutionalise social rights?
In this talk, Professor David Kenny will explore the uncertain future of a ‘social Europe’ after the Eurocrisis and years of austerity, and will discuss the role that legal protection of social rights in EU member states might play in trying to restore it. Professor Kenny asks whether stronger domestic and constitutional protection of social rights or social state principles could help to advance these goals at both a national and European level.
Global Research Fellow Eirik Bjorge and Emile Noel Fellows Virginia Passalacqua and Fernando Pastor Merchante will respond and Professor Gráinne de Búrca will moderate this discussion.
First floor Lounge, 22 Washington Sq. North, New York, NY 10011
