Trial Advocacy Society Interest Meeting
40 Washington Square South NY ,10012 (view map)
This event is not open to the public.
CALLING ALL 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls: Interested in trial litigation? Want to switch up your schedule from sitting in the library all afternoon?
The NYU Law Trial Advocacy Society (TAS) is NYU Law’s only student group dedicated to the development and practice of trial advocacy skills and is the premiere fully student-run law school trial advocacy team in the country.
Each year, TAS sends teams of two to four students to numerous regional and national mocktrial competitions across the country. At each competition, the teams argue entire trials before a judge and jury, all based on a given fact-pattern (covering issues ranging from qualified and judicial immunity, to college admissions fraud, to murder), against teams from other law schools from across the country. As a member of NYU Law's Mock Trial Team, you will be introduced to the practice of trial law and the Federal Rules of Evidence, and you will also get the chance to hone your public speaking skills through writing and performing direct and cross examinations of witnesses and opening/closing statements.
Absolutely no prior mock trial, trial advocacy, or debate experience is required to join and be successful. Over half of our current members came in with no prior experience at all, and have won some of the most competitive awards and tournaments in the country, including being the only trial advocacy team in New York state history to sweep a New York regional and send two teams from the same school to nationals.
Fill out this form here to join our mailing list and make sure you get information about upcoming tryouts!
