EPIC's Solitary Confinement Project, in partnership with EPIC's Prison Teaching Project and NLG, will be holding a Trauma-Sensitive Interviewing Training this Wednesday, October 13 from 6-7:30 pm. The training will take place at this Zoom link. Please RSVP here if you plan to attend.

The training is mandatory for all new Solitary Confinement Project members. If you want to take part in SCP this semester and cannot attend the training, please indicate this on the RSVP form, and we will grant you access to the recording. This training is open to everyone, but please make sure to RSVP to the event and check "other" on the form if you want to attend but are not affiliated with one of the sponsoring groups.

Though not required, this training is highly encouraged for current SCP members, as this year's training will include new information.

This training will be led by Dr. Katherine Porterfield. Please see her bio below:

Katherine Porterfield received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan, where she specialized in research and clinical work with children and families who have experienced loss and trauma. Since 1999, she has worked as a clinical psychologist and instructor at the NYU/Bellevue Program for Survivors of Torture. At the request of the Center for Constitutional Rights, Dr. Porterfield has provided training for attorneys serving clients at Guantanamo Bay. She helped these attorneys develop tools to communicate with traumatized clients and educated them on the risks of vicarious trauma -- the second-hand trauma one can experience from hearing about someone else's trauma. In recent years she has worked with clients on death row and argued for lesser sentences based on mitigating factors.
