Substantial Performance Auditions - Day 1 / 2
40 Washington Square South NY ,10012 (view map)
This event is not open to the public.
Substantial Performance, NYU Law’s AMAZING student a cappella group, is back in-person! We are excited to sing with you and invite you to audition for the group! Interested students can sign up for a 10 minute audition slot on either Tuesday, September 14th or Wednesday, September 15th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm using this form. If you can't make the in-person audition, no worries - you can submit a recorded audition instead using this form.
Membership in Substantial Performance is a low time commitment (2-3 hours/week) and is open to all current members of the law school including LLMs. We perform a mixture of jazz, pop, oldies, doo-wop, and choral music, and try our best to sing more than just typical a cappella repertoire.
We are looking for new people on each voice part and want you (yes YOU) to audition! We highly encourage all law students (regardless of class year) to consider joining us.
Formal training and/or prior a cappella/choral experience are NOT required and our audition process is very low-stress. Our members have a range of different musical backgrounds and experience levels. If you enjoy singing, please consider auditioning! To audition, all you need to do is prepare a verse & chorus of a song that showcases your voice! We'll also be testing your vocal range and doing short blending and pitch matching exercises. Those interested will have an opportunity to sightread or beatbox, however, doing so is completely optional.
Check out our Instagram and YouTube pages to see what the group has been upto over the last year. Any questions? Come meet us at the Student Group Fair here. Looking forward to meeting and singing with you all!
