This event has passed.

The Prevention Project at the Center for Human Rights & Global Justice is thrilled to launch the first report of the Security Workstream on the prevention of mass human rights violations within the realm of policing.

The Security Workstream, one of the eight thematic workstreams of the Prevention Project, is composed of 20-30 experts, academics and practitioners, globally distributed, with diverse disciplinary backgrounds and different regional experiences.

The experts met regularly for over a year to craft a policy report with recommendations focusing on concrete measures that states and police forces can take to ensure that policing contributes to the prevention of mass human rights violations.

The discussion will be led by Prof. Pablo de Greiff,  Senior Fellow and Director of the Prevention Project at the Center, joined by:

  • Ms. Rachel Neild, lead expert and author of the report, independent consultant and formerly Senior Program Advisor at the Open Society Justice Initiative and Division Director for Criminal Justice;
  • Prof. Etannibi Alemika, workstream expert and Nigerian Professor of Criminology, Sociology of Law, and Research Methodology;
  • Mr. Michael Reed Hurtado, workstream expert and Director of Governance and Operations of The Guernica Centre for International Justice in the United States.
