Organizing Workplaces: Learn the Secret of Power
Are you going to be working in direct legal services this summer or have plans to do in the future? Are you interested in the idea of unionizing your workplace? Or do you just broadly care about issues of unions, worker protections, and fair representation? The Law Students for Economic Justice (LSEJ) will be hosting a panel called "Organizing Workplaces: Learn the Secret of Power" to discuss all of these questions and much more. Our panelists are:
Alexi Shalom, an organizer for the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys
John Zakour, an attorney from Prisoners Legal Services
Rita Akincilar, a social work assistant from Brooklyn Defender Services
Ian Brady, executive council member of the Campaign Workers Guild
All of these folks either have direct experience organizing their workplaces or are union members (or both!) and are looking forward to discussing the unique and challenging questions that emerge from being both an advocate and worker and how unionization can change a workplace. The panel will be on February 24th, from 5:30 PM - 7 PM, with a Zoom link coming soon. If you're interested in attending, please check out the email in Coases and fill out the form to RSVP and submit any questions ahead of the event.
