International law is increasingly recognizing that the future of a large number of communities, Indigenous peoples, small-scale fishers, women and children depends on a healthy ocean. This event will showcase a landmark initiative that has contributed to this recognition: the One Ocean Hub, a Global North/South research collaboration on human rights and the ocean. The Hub has brought together natural and social scientists, legal experts, artists, and human rights holders and defenders.
In partnership with NYU Law Earth Rights Research & Action (TERRA) Program, One Ocean Hub will promote mutually supportive interpretations of international environmental law, the law of the sea, and international human rights law. These efforts will be driven by transdisciplinary collaborations grounded in local, intergenerational experiences, and will harness the transformative potential of art-based action research as a human rights practice.
Light refreshments will be served. Capacity is limited, please register here.
