NYU 2021 Social Innovation Symposium
Friday, February 26, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
On February 26, 2021, NYU’s Law, Wagner School of Public Policy, and Stern School of Business will host the annual Social Innovation Symposium. Experts from an array of industries and backgrounds will come together to inspire a new generation of change-makers.
This year’s theme, Human Centered Capitalism; Leveraging Resources to Drive Impact, considers the shift in expectations for how organizations conduct business with respect to people, planet and profits. New generations seek out employers with a social mission, investors demand not only high returns but higher standards for where their money is invested, and corporations continue to see their business models disrupted by challenges of sustainability and social impact. As these trends accelerate and the urgency grows greater in coming years, we seek to step ahead of these problems and explore where we're headed.
Join professionals and panelists from law firms, nonprofits, and private enterprises as we rethink the future of business. Partners and attending companies include: Applegate Farms, Closed Loop Partners, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Kirkland & Ellis, Impactive Capital, and ICR with more to be confirmed. This virtual event will take place from 11AM-2PM ET. A specific schedule of panels can be found on our event page, linked to above.
The Law School's Planning Committee Members have specifically put together the following panel, which will take place from 12:00pm to 12:45pm:
The Evolving Role of Investors in Driving ESG Change
This panel aims to facilitate a dialogue around ESG activism in the public company space, and understand the role that investors are playing here. Some of our driving questions are: (a) why & how are investors (both passive and activist) focusing on ESG change, (b) how are companies reacting to this growing focus on ESG, (c) what are the challenges that ESG poses for shareholder engagement, and finally (d) how do folks see this space evolving in the near- and long-term future?
