The African Law Association is excited to announce their first virtual speaker session of the academic year! All members – as well as anyone interested in the topic – are invited to to join us on November 11th, 2:00PM-3:30PM EST, for a virtual discussion with Ziyanda Stuurman on militarized enforcement of lockdowns in response to COVID-19 across Africa.

Ziyanda Stuurman is a political science and international relations graduate of Stellenbosch University and a 2017-2018 Chevening Scholar and 2018-2019 Fulbright Scholar. Her research focuses on the intersections between security studies, international development, political economy and public policy. Ziyanda is currently working on a book project exploring the policy and political issues underlying the multiple crises in South Africa's policing system, as well as the connections between those issues and police violence and brutality in the country.
