This event has passed.

The goal of the event is to educate community members and Law School students about the issue of parole in New York State and the impact of technical parole violations. New York reincarcerates more people for technical violations thanany other state except Illinois. There are more than 6000 people in state prisons today for technical violations of parole, not criminal offenses -- that is nearly 15% of the entire statewide prison population. In NYC, more than 600 people are on Rikers today due to technical violations of parole, not for committing new crimes. The way in which NY handles technical violations of parole is deeply broken. The #LessIsMoreNY bill in Albany (S. 1343B – Benjamin / A. 5493A Mosley) would be discussed as an attempt to address this problem.
