Latham & Watkins Forum: The Case for Abolishing the Electoral College
The Case for Abolishing the Electoral College
The framers of the Constitution battled over it. Lawmakers have tried to amend or abolish it more than 700 times. Twice in the last five elections, the Electoral College has overridden the popular vote. Millions of voters, and even members of Congress, misunderstand how it works. In his forthcoming book, Let the People Pick the President: The Case for Abolishing the Electoral College, Jesse Wegman ’05 presents his arguments for doing away with an institution he calls “antiquated” and “antidemocratic.” At this Forum, Wegman will discuss the issue with two other NYU Law experts in democracy and constitutional design and reform.
