The Future of Civil Rights

1:30–2:30 p.m.
This is a virtual event

RSVP for the event.

Since President Trump’s inauguration on January 20, his administration has already taken a series of actions that profoundly affect the civil rights landscape, including on immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Even well-informed citizens are struggling to keep up with the flurry of activity and what it means for the future of civil rights.

Join Sherrilyn Ifill, one of the nation’s foremost civil rights leaders, in conversation with Kenji Yoshino, Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law and Director of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Professor Ifill is President and Director-Counsel Emeritus of the Legal Defense Fund (LDF), Vernon E. Jordan, Jr., Esq. Endowed Chair in Civil Rights at Howard University School of Law, and author of the forthcoming book Is This America?. Professors Yoshino and Ifill will have a wide-ranging conversation about the state of civil rights and democracy in the United States today, the challenges posed by the current administration, and the path forward for those who support the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This event is part of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging speaker series and is cosponsored by the Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Center. View the list of our speaker series' sponsors.
