Gibson Dunn partner Akiva Shapiro and senior associate William J. Moccia will be joining the Federalist Society for a conversation about litigation on the Supreme Court’s so-called “shadow docket” during the COVID?19 pandemic.  Messrs. Shapiro and Moccia represented the plaintiffs in The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, New York v. Cuomo—a successful free exercise challenge to New York’s restrictions on in-person church attendance—and Chrysafis v. Marks—in which the Supreme Court granted emergency injunctive relief blocking enforcement of the State’s COVID-19 eviction moratorium as violative of landlords’ procedural due process rights.  They will discuss their experiences litigating those cases and share their thoughts on the shadow docket from a practitioner’s perspective.
