Dispute Systems Design: How to Create Effective Strategies in Victim Compensation Funds" will address how to create mechanisms to design a successful Victim Compensation Fund program. Jordana H. Feldman and Diego Faleck will be the panelists, sharing their experiences in high-profile cases to discuss the Brazilian and U.S. perspectives on the topic. Sabrina Liz will be the panel moderator.
Jordana received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She is an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York University (NYU). Jordana is a nationally recognized expert in the design, implementation, and administration of high-profile, high-stakes, emotionally charged victim compensation programs established to resolve claims and compensate victims of mass tragedies outside of court. She served as the independent, neutral Administrator of the Epstein Victims' Compensation Program and as Deputy Special Master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, the unprecedented federal litigation-alternative program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Division that was created to compensate the thousands of victims who have died, sustained injuries or become ill as a result of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Prior to joining the Justice Department, Jordana worked in the alternative dispute resolution group at Dickstein Shapiro, LLP, and at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.
Diego founded Faleck & Associados, the first dispute resolution firm fully specialized in mediation and settlement counsel in Brazil, with a unique track record in business mediations, national and international, and dispute systems design for major and notorious national cases. He holds an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School and a PhD degreefrom the University of São Paulo. He is an Adjunct Professor on Advanced Topics in Dispute Resolution at the Straus Institute at Pepperdine Law School - Malibu-CA. Diego held significant government positions in Brazil in antitrust matters and consumer protection. He was featured by Who's Who Legal as a Global Elite Thought Leader and as the leading business mediator in Latin America.
Sabrina Liz is a Brazilian attorney. She holds an LL.B. degree from Mackenzie Presbyterian University and is an LL.M. Candidate at NYU School of Law, where she was granted the Dean's Graduate Award Scholarship. Sabrina has interned at Brazil's Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region and acted as a trainee at Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados, a full-service Brazilian law firm, having worked at Corporate and M&A, Judicial Tax Litigation and Litigation and Arbitration. Over the last three years, Sabrina worked as a Case Manager of arbitration and mediation proceedings at the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CAM-CCBC). She is a member of the Young International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG), Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr), Special Arbitration Commission of the São Paulo chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association, Corporate Mediation Commission of the São Paulo chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association, among others.
