This is a Norges Bank special event for the Sovereign Finance, Capital Markets, and Global Regulatory Challenges Seminar [Credit Course for NYU Law School and Stern MBA Degrees]
Who holds the power in financial markets? For many, the answer would probably be the investment banks, asset managers, and hedge funds that are often in the media's spotlight. But increasingly a new group of sovereign wealth funds (SWF), such as NBIM (Norway), PIF (Saudi Arabia), and NZ Super (New Zealand), have become the most influential capital markets players and investment asset owners.
AI is a general purpose tool with broad applications. In its investment process, NBIM – the world’s lagest SWF with $1.6 trillion assets – often has to evaluate how well companies use and develop AI to determine if they are good investments. Where NBIM has a competitive advantage, AI features directly in algorithmic investing strategies. Like most other organisations, NBIM also uses AI to improve their efficiency via various internal tools.
Finally, AI is an important part of NBIM’s engagement with companies. NBIM believes in promoting good corporate citizenship that benefits all actors. Through its AI view and conversations with company management, NBIM endavours to further best practices in responsible AI such that this technology creates maximum value for stakeholders.
