The NYU Annual Survey of American Law will dedicate its 77th volume to Barbara Underwood, Solicitor General of New York State, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Each year, the students on the editorial board of the Annual Survey select a distinguished jurist, scholar, political figure, or practitioner to whom they dedicate a forthcoming volume of the Annual Survey.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Greenberg Lounge, Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South, and a few of Ms. Underwood's friends and colleagues will provide brief tributes that will range from funny anecdotes to thoughtful comments on her work. Tributes will be delivered by the Honorable Zachary Carter, `75, former Corporation Counsel for New York City, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and former judge of the New York City Criminal Court; Elizabeth Holtzman, former U.S. Congresswoman, former New York City Comptroller, former District Attorney of Kings County, and current Counsel at Herrick, Feinstein in New York City; Pamela Karlan, Kenneth and Harle Montgomery Professor of Public Interest Law, Co-Director of the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic, Stanford Law School and former U.S. Deputy Assistant Attorney General; Janet Sabel, `84, Attorney-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of The Legal Aid Society and former Chief Deputy Attorney General of New York; and Seth Waxman, former Solicitor General of the United States, current Partner at WilmerHale in Washington, DC.
