This year, PCCE's annual fall conference focuses on the management of effective privacy and cybersecurity programs, focusing on areas of legal risk, regulatory demands, disclosure requirements, and increasing threats. This off-the-record discussion convenes top academics, government officials, general counsel, compliance officers, information security and privacy professionals, and expert external counsel. Additionally, following a discussion on the recent New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) Cybersecurity Rule amendments, keynote speaker Adrienne Harris, the Superintendent of NYDFS, will close the conference with an address on the department’s cybersecurity initiatives. Harriet Pearson, Executive Deputy Superintendent, New York Department of Financial Services
Harriet Pearson is Executive Deputy Superintendent and head of the Cybersecurity Division at the New York Department of Financial Services. She joined DFS on August 1, 2023 and brings over 30 years of legal, compliance, and business experience to public service. Previously Pearson was a Partner at Hogan Lovells where she founded and led the global cybersecurity practice for a decade before transitioning to Senior Counsel in 2021. She joined Hogan Lovells after a 19-year career with IBM, where she served as the company’s first Security Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer. In these and other positions at the company, Pearson led large global teams and represented the company externally to Congress, the White House, regulators, the media, advocacy organizations, and business leaders nationally and internationally. Pearson has received numerous recognitions for her pioneering work in cybersecurity and data privacy law and policy. Born in New York City, Pearson graduated with honors from Princeton University and the UCLA School of Law and completed executive leadership training courses at Harvard Business School and Said Business School of Oxford University. She is a member of the bar in New York and the District of Columbia.
Florencia Marotta-Wurgler, Boxer Family Professor of Law, NYU School of Law
Florencia Marotta-Wurgler focuses on contracts, consumer privacy, consumer law, electronic commerce, empirical legal studies, and law and economics. Her research has studied consumer contracts and privacy policies online, such as whether disclosure and information privacy regimes are effective and whether people read fine print. She has participated in FTC hearings and testified before the US Senate. She is a co-reporter of the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law of Consumer Contracts, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, and a former member of the board of directors of the American Law and Economics Association. She serves as the Director of the Study Abroad program in Buenos Aires at NYU School of Law, where she is also a fellow at the Engelberg Center and an affiliated faculty member at the Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Network. Professor Marotta-Wurgler received a BA with honors from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD cum laude from the NYU School of Law.
