About the Center

History

The NYU Pollack Center for Law & Business was established through a unique joint venture of the NYU School of Law and the Stern School of Business in the fall of 1997.

In 2006, the NYU Center for Law & Business was renamed the NYU Lester Pollack Center for Law & Business in honor of Lester Pollack ’57, founder of Centre Partners Management, a private equity firm. He served on the Law School’s Board of Trustees for more than 25 years, the last eight as chairman. At the dedication dinner, Pollack said: “This evening celebrates my ambitions to give back to the school that gave so much to me.”

Mission

The Center brings together the resources of NYU’s Law School and Stern School of Business to enhance graduate education as well as student and faculty research in areas where law and business intersect.

Our mission has three principal parts:

  • Professional Education: To enrich the teaching curriculum of both schools through the development of unique courses.
  • Scholarship: To facilitate professional interaction and academic research by faculty who share an interest in the structure, regulation, and function of the market economy.
  • Policy and Professionalism: To contribute to the public welfare by supporting scholarship that assists governmental and private policymakers in their pursuit of enhanced business productivity, and by sponsoring data research as well as seminars, conferences, and other events that advance the public discourse on law and business.
