Steven Dean will join NYU Law on January 1, 2019, as the new faculty director of the Graduate Tax Program, Dean Trevor Morrison announced this week. Dean is currently vice dean and professor of law at Brooklyn Law School.
“Steven is a gifted teacher, an accomplished scholar, and an excellent administrator,” Morrison said. “We’re delighted to welcome him to NYU Law.”
At Brooklyn, Dean has taught courses on tax policy, federal income tax, corporate tax, and international tax. He is a member of the executive committee of the New York State Bar Association’s tax section and a member of the American College of Tax Counsel. Prior to joining the faculty of Brooklyn Law, Dean practiced tax law at Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Debevoise & Plimpton.
In addition to his tax scholarship, Dean writes about social enterprise and impact investment, most recently co-authoring Social Enterprise Law: Trust, Public Benefit and Capital Markets (Oxford 2017) with Dana Brakman Reiser.
Dean earned his JD from Yale Law School, where he was an editor of Yale Law and Policy Review, and his undergraduate degree cum laude from Williams College.
