Dian Yu ’16 has been awarded the 2014 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Graduate Scholarship from the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans.
Founded in 1947, the Horatio Alger Association is a nonprofit educational organization that honors the achievements of outstanding individuals and encourages youth to pursue higher education as a means of achieving their goals. The Washington Achievement Graduate Scholarship provides up to $30,000 annually for up to three years to individuals pursuing graduate-level education. It is given to 10 students from the pool of State and National Horatio Alger Scholar Alumni. In 2007, Yu received the Horatio Alger Pennsylvania/Franklin Scholarship.
Before attending law school, Yu, a Root-Tilden-Kern Scholar, worked for Acumen Fund in Nairobi, Kenya, helping to build financially sustainable organizations to deliver affordable goods and services to low-income communities. She also served as a consultant for EKO Asset Management Partners, an investment and advisory firm specializing in environmental markets and natural infrastructure.
