On September 25, the week before the U.S. Supreme Court convened for its 2013-14 term, panelists at a Milbank Tweed Forum took stock of the court’s recent rulings and upcoming docket. Jacob D. Fuchsberg Professor of Law Barry Friedman moderated the discussion, and participants included Debo Adegbile '94, a senior counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee and former attorney for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund; Lauren Goldman ’97, a partner at Mayer Brown and co-head of that firm’s worldwide litigation and dispute resolution practice; and Adam Liptak, Supreme Court correspondent for the New York Times. Among the cases discussed were rulings handed down this summer on Voting Rights, same-sex marriage, and affirmative action. Panelists also looked ahead to cases the justices will hear on recess appointments, class actions, and other matters.
