International Court of Justice Clerkship Program
New York University School of Law was the first American law school to initiate a clerkship program with the International Court of Justice in 2000. Now maintained under the auspices of the Hauser Global Law School Program, this clerkship is an opportunity to work for nine months in The Hague, and is awarded to few of the most outstanding legal scholars worldwide. Each year, NYU School of Law selects current students or alumni based on their applications to receive the professional honor.
NYU School of Law has sponsored more than 20 of our graduates to work as clerks at the International Court of Justice in recent years.
The clerkship program is open to all graduates of NYU School of Law (including those who will graduate in the spring semester preceding the clerkship.) The clerkship runs for nine months from September 2013 to May 2014. The clerkship opportunity carries with it a stipend which helps support the cost of living in The Hague.
Clerkship experience and familiarity with international law are two important factors in the selection process. Applicants must be proficient in both English and French. While not required for application to the clerkship program, candidates should be prepared to supply a writing sample upon the request of the selection committee.
